The Bible on Marijuana

Why did god make marijuana

The Bible On Marijuana

Recently, we had a Pastor speak about what the Bible says about marijuana along with many other questions and topics. Recently, we have been asked to dig a little deeper into what the Bible says about it, so we asked our friend to answer that question more specifically just for you guys.

If you listened to our recent podcast, you may have heard some of this information, but if not, we think you'll enjoy this article. Here's what he had had to say.

The Bible on Smoking Weed

While the Bible does not specifically call out marijuana by name, it does speak of not using mind-altering substances. This includes the overuse of alcohol, over-the-counter medication, or anything of that nature that can alter your state of mind.
-
While Christians believe that God made everything on the planet for a specific purpose, the problem typically pertains to the way marijuana is being used. Smoking marijuana leads to a mind-altering high after one joint is smoked. If the high aspect was removed and the CBD was used for pain relief alone, it may receive less backlash.

Bible New Testament
Most activists will use Genesis 1:29 as a biblical reference to support weed and the use of it. God also created poisonous mushrooms and hemlock that are not meant to be consumed directly. This doesn't give us the means to use it any way we see fit.
-
This isn't a new debate either. Evidence of the use and abuse of drugs is found in the ancient eastern hemisphere, including Israel itself. The Bible recognizes the abuse of drugs and other items of the like and refers to the disastrous effects they can have as well.
-
The problem that also arises is that many people use marijuana to mask their underlying hurts and pains, specifically speaking to emotional and traumatic experiences. God wants to help us through these issues, not use an item to mask it. After all, once you wake up from the high, the problem is right back in your face.

Does the Bible Support Marijuana?

-
Biblically, if we were intended to use marijuana, we would find scripture backing up the uses of it. Since there is not, Christians cannot consider smoking weed as something they should support.
-
Are there Christians that support marijuana nevertheless? Most likely. At the end of the day, it is up to each individual personal conviction and perspective. Can we say the Bible supports smoking marijuana? No. We are not denying that specific parts of the plant can be used for pain relief and other situations. We're just saying that smoking the plant to induce and mental high is something we cannot support.

As a Pastor who believes the Bible is the inerrant word of God, I cannot support smoking marijuana, just as I do not support alcoholism or opioid abuse. If the use of certain properties of the plant can accomplish the same thing medicinal activists are striving for, and that is what we start seeing over smoking it, we will have another conversation that day. God bless.
